MAC Cosmetics Makeover

Prior to the Clothes Show on Tuesday, I had a MAC makeover in Selfridges, Birmingham. My friend, Emma had pre-booked the appointments in store.

A 30 minute session is £20 and 60 minutes, £30. However, the bonus is that this money is then redeemable on products! We went for the hour long session as we knew we could spend £30 easily.

The make up artists were really nice and asked us what kind of look we would like. I thought that I might aswell go for something a little different to what i'd normally do so I went for a smokey eye look with lots of glitter!

They went and gathered some of the products that they were going to use.

I'm pleased that I finally know my MAC shade. I've never wanted to have to go bare faced or anything to find out but as predicted, I'm pale as normal and NC15.
I'm afraid that these are phone pictures and not the best quality but here' the finished look!

The make up artist then proceeded by completing a face chart for us to take away, listing all the products used and then it was shopping time. It's usually pretty hard to get anybody's assistance in MAC because they're so busy but they made sure to stay with us until we were done and had chosen our products.

I chose a lustre lipstick in Lovelorn (£15) which is this pretty pink shade and I also picked up the Fix Plus Spray (£14.50) which i've been thinking about for a while and the Brush Cleaner (£10).

Overall, I was pleased with the results and if you're planning on spending some money in MAC anyway, why not book yourself in for a treat. You're not losing anything!

Fall Accessories Haul

Over the past month or so, i've collected quite a few accessories that I haven't shared on my blog yet. So, I've put it into a collective haul below and i'll also do one on the beauty products that i've picked up in a separate post!

I wanted to get a new bag as the one that I was using before has always managed to set the alarm off in shops and it's so embarrassing! It was from Zara last year and it must be something in the lining of the bag! However, this bag is totally me; you can't go wrong with black and then I always like a bit of sparkle!

I'm loving snoods so much more than scarfs lately. I like this monochrome print as it should go with a lot of things.

Frilly Black Socks - Ebay - £4.60 for 3 pairs

I got these to wear with my cut out boots from New Look, I got 3 for the price of 1 pair in River Island!

Fingertip Rings - £2.99 for 3, New Look

Hair Scrunchies £2.99 for 2, New Look

All products are linked if you fancy a look.

Let me know what items you've been buying recently!

Tales of a Pale Face Autumn Beauty Swap

I love beauty swaps, so when Kat tweeted that she was organising one, I signed up straight away.

I was paired up with Lisa who definitely got the ball rolling on this one because i've been so behind on emails lately so thank you for being patient with me!

After we'd decided on a £30 budget, it was time for the shopping to begin...

Soap and Glory Clean On Me Shower Gel

You can never have enough mini products. I've reviewed this before here.

REDKEN Smooth Lock Shampoo and Conditioner

Champney's Distant Shores Body Scrub

This smells amazing so much so that I haven't brought myself to use it yet. It contains mango passionfruit and citrus oils.

Dr. Bronners Magic Soap

LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub

I've had one of these before and loved it but I had to throw it away as it expired so i'm glad to have a fresh one! My lips definitely need it now that the weather has changed.

Seventeen Stay Pout Lipstick in Rulebreaker

Rimmel Colour Rush in 220 Rumour has it

I mentioned that i'd like to try some deeper berry/red lip colours for Autumn and these have been great. They're not something I would've picked out for myself as I tend to stay away from red altogether but I've actually enjoyed wearing them!

Mini REN Facial Polish and Cleansing Balm

Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

This was the first thing that I used out of the products from Lisa and I loved it. It's a clay mask that goes hot on your face and it seemed to do some good to my skin! I'd definitely purchase this for myself.

Make Believe Enhance Shimmer Lip Gloss

Broadway Impress Nails

I am a huge fan of Impress Nails, so I was pleased to see another set to add to my collection!

And some yummy chocolate to top it off :)

Thank you so much to Lisa for getting me all of these lovely things and thanks to Kat for organising the swap!

Swaps are so much fun to take part in so I'd definitely recommend signing up to one if you get the chance. I'd like to do an American swap one day!

Empty Products

I've fallen behind on empties post so once again there's quite a collection!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation x 3 - All of these were near the bottom and i'd kept them to get the remains out by leaving them upside down hence there's 3 in one go! As you can see I've been repurchasing this foundation though, it's a great foundation for the price.

Bioderma 250ml x 2 - I was a Bioderma convert and it is amazing however, recently i've been trying the L'Oreal Micellar Water with similar results so if you're on a budget it's definitely worth giving it a go!

Benefit They're Real Mascara - Everybody loves this mascara and I was behind on the hype but I can agree, it is a real good mascara lengthening, volumizing but natural too.

Katy Perry Eyelashes - Oh Honey - I really like the Katy Perry Eyelashes and have tried a selection of them. I would repurchase these. Eylure are a winning eyelash company so add Katy Perry into it and it's a perfect combination :)

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent x 2 - Constant repurchase!

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Tropical x 2 - Constant repurchase!

Eylure Pre Glued Eyelashes - These came in a Glossybox and were a disaster! I loved the idea of them but before I even got them near my eye, i'd managed to get the lash stuck together making them unusable.

Charles Worthington Full Volume Conditioner - Decent conditioner but nothing special.

Elemis Tranquil Touch Body Wash - Nice product but expensive for what it is.

Broadway Jet Nail Glue - Once again i've managed to get the lid glued on!

Anatomicals - You need a blooming shower! Your nose smells rose body cleanser - Standard shower gel but Anatomicals always has cute packaging.

Nivea Visage Refreshing Facial Wash Gel - You can probably see this is practically full but my skin didn't like it and i've had it ages so it was time for it to go.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner in Black - My go to eyeliner, smudge free, black and cheap!

BIONOVA Eye Wrinkle Treatment - This irritated my eyes, so a no go product for me.

Versace VANITAS Miniature Perfume

Burberry Miniature Perfume

OOTD - Wrecking Ball

My leather jacket has been my staple piece in my wardrobe for about the last 5 years. I'm pretty sure that I got it when I was about 16 and have worn it to death. It's now a bit on the small side and has some rips in the lining but I still love it. The other day, we were food shopping in Tesco when they had a sale rail downstairs. Not purposely looking, I saw some black quilting in the middle of it and picked it up to have a look. It was this faux leather jacket reduced from £32 to £15 and it was in my size! I've just gone to see if it's still available on the website to put the link in and it turns out it's full price on there so I don't know why mine was reduced!

Striped White Top: H&M £12.99
Jeans: River Island

As my boots have cut out sections, I feel more comfortable wearing all black socks so I looked on ebay to see about some frilled ones. I'd looked in places like River Island already and they were almost £5 a pair in there, however, on ebay, I managed to get 3 pairs for £6ish including postage. I've linked the seller here.

MAXFACTOR Whipped Cream Foundation Review

I first swatched this Maxfactor Whipped Cream Foundation at the Merry Hill Autumn/Winter Event. It was based on the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation but better.

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse was one of the first foundations I can remember using at school. I'm pretty sure that it probably made me orange and broke me out but I carried on using it anyway. Maxfactor wanted to create a mousse foundation but overcome the downfalls of Maybelline.
Maxfactor have made their mousse hydrating which was a problem with Maybelline as it was drying and cakey.

On first impressions the texture was really nice and I originally swatched the ivory shade. Straight after the event, me and Clare went to Superdrug and Clare picked it up straight away and managed to get it on offer at £7.99 rather than it's retail price of £9.99.

I went home and tried a few sachet samples that I had of it over the next couple of days. Then, I was sold and ended up going to Boot's to buy it. The sachets that I tried were in the shade 50 natural so I decided to try that one.

It has a demi-matte finish and is actually really buildable which is good, especially if you prefer a high coverage foundation. I've been applying it with my fingers and it does feel weightless on the skin.

Have you tried this foundation?

Wedding OOTD - Cobalt Blue

Last month, my cousin got married and here's what I wore:

Dress: H&M
Bag: TK Maxx
Tights: TK Maxx
Heels: Dune
Bracelet: Pandora

I frantically went to the shops on the morning of the wedding to find a dress to wear. It was the typical scenario of having plenty of more than suitable dresses in your wardrobe but not wanting to wear any of them. I ended up buying a few skirts and a dress but not to wear to the wedding! As a back up plan, my friend had lent me this dress the day before which was perfect. Thanks Em!

What to wear to an Autumn/Winter wedding?

TGI Friday's Cocktail Event

*Apologies, picture heavy post*

Last Thursday, I was invited to an event at TGI Friday's in Birmingham. The night was a cocktails and art event to showcase some of TGI Friday's new cocktails. I could bring a plus one so I asked one of my best friends Siobhan to accompany me.

We were given a card for 3 complimentary cocktails each. Here are a few that we tried:

  • Popping Candy Strawberry Margarita
  • Passion fruit Bellini
  • Strawberry Shortcake
  • Purple Rain

  • We then tried some tapas which I definitely welcomed as I was a little bit hungry after a long day at work! We had the pretzel bread and dip as well as BBQ and Jack Daniel's chicken skewers which were all yummy.

A bit later, we had the chance to go behind the bar and make our own cocktail. This was interesting as you can see on instagram here:

Hinky Dink Cocktail displayed through graffiti

They had arranged some cute activities to keep us entertained throughout the night. There was a man drawing caricatures (Alex Hughes) and I was the first volunteer of the night. The cocktail drawn is a 'Cherry Stag', however, I don't like cherry so gave that one a miss.

There were canvas bags and paint pens for us to design our own bags. Here's what we came up with:

I really like TGI Friday's even though I don't go too often but it's definitely one of the places where I choose to have a cocktail with my meal and after trying a variety I know which ones I'd have again!

Thanks to TGI's for inviting me!

Autumn/ Fall Outfit of the Day - OOTD

I woke up this morning with no idea what the time was as the clocks have gone back and we gain an hour. However, I don't think I made the most of this extra sleeping hour as I was awake anyway and was trying to work out which clocks had updated automatically!

    Now, onto my OOTD:

As the seasons have changed, I've done some Autumn shopping and the clothes i've picked up have all been black or burgundy/oxblood. Not purposely though! I'm just drawn towards those colours and need to let some other colours come through.

This top is one that I picked up from Vero Moda recently and they are definitely a shop that I am going to have a look in more often. Some of the pieces in there are gorgeous and bang on trend.

Black Embossed Top: Vero Moda £22
Burgundy Quilted Skirt: River Island £24 (Season Offer £12)

SMASHBOX Try It Kit, Best Sellers - Bargain

I popped into my local Boot's the other day to pick up some items for a swap that i'm taking part in and Ryan noticed this on the clearance shelf.  It is the Smashbox Try it Kit, Best Sellers. It was originally priced at £19 for £36 worth of products but had since been reduced to clear at £9.50!

I've only tried the Primer from Smashbox as it's an expensive brand and nothing had stood out dramatically before. I have a few sample sized primers that i'm working my way through already and it's definitely the best primer i've used and it doesn't affect my skin.

The small primer retails for £12 alone in Boots so I definitely couldn't go wrong by picking up this set.

    Contents:

    Photo Finish Foundation Primer

    Photo Finish Lid Primer

    Full Exposure Mascara

    Limitless Eyeliner in Onyx

    Lip Enhancing Gloss in Illume

It's still retailing at £19 online so maybe check out the clearance shelf in your local Boot's store. There's definitely nothing wrong with my kit to make it be reduced.

Origins GinZing - All is Bright

Origins are a brand that are currently getting raved about all over the blogging world and i've finally joined the hype. After trying a sample of the GinZing Moisturiser at the Merry Hill A/W event, I knew I had to have it.

What I didn't realise was how very few places actually stock Origins products. As I have problem skin, I was also desperate to try the Out of Trouble Face Mask. The hard bit; tracking it down! All the online sites that I went on were sold out of the face mask and I didn't want to pay delivery on just the moisturiser so then, I started looking for my nearest stockist. The closest Boots to me that stock Origins is Merry Hill which is a bit too far to go so I went to House of Fraser in Birmingham.

The lady at the counter was really nice and said I would be very lucky if I was to find the Out of Trouble Mask anywhere. Booo! So if anyone knows where I can get hold of one, please let me know!

Rather than pick up the GinZing moisturiser alone, I had a look at the Christmas gifts. There are definitely some great savings to be had by picking up a gift set. A lot of them contain the Drink UP Intensive Mask which I think would be too intense for my skin, but they're all at a really good price.

I chose the Origins All Is Bright set for £30

    This contains:

    • GinZing Refreshing eye cream to brighten and depuff 5ml
    • GinZing Energy-boosting moisturizer 30ml
    • GinZing Brightening mascara to lengthen and lift 14ml
    • GinZing Brightening cream eyeshadow in Sugar Peach 5ml
50ml of the GinZing moisturiser alone is £23 and 15ml of the eye cream is £23, so I'm pleased with this set as they are a good size to try out without having to buy the full sized products straight away.

The moisturiser smells delicious like oranges and I can definitely see it waking me up in a morning. It is referred to as 'a shot of espresso for tired skin'. It is a lightweight, oil free formula that hydrates an creates a radiant glow.

Update: I've used this for about a week now and so far i'm loving it! The moisturiser absorbs quickly and is a nice texture and hasn't caused any issues with my sensitive skin. The eye cream definitely brightens the eye area and you only need the tiniest amount. However, it stings if you get it in your eye! Ooops!

The cream eyeshadow is a shimmery champagne colour that you can't go wrong with and it'll be interesting to give the mascara a go as I haven't heard anything about Origins make up line before.

What do you think about the Origins range?

Glossybox October 2013 - Dark Romance

Here's a look at this month's Glossybox. It is meant to have a Dark Romance theme which got me excited as I thought there would be a few berry toned products. However, it isn't the best box ever...

    Pretty Background

    MONU Illuminating Primer - £24.95 for 50ml (20ml sample)

MONU are a brand that have featured quite a lot in previous Glossybox's and I haven't found any stand out products. I like trying out new primers though so i'll give this a whirl.

Katy Perry Killer Queen Perfume £29.50 for 50ml

We sell this fragrance where I work and originally I thought it smelt a lot like Beyonce Heat however, since smelling it more, it has come into its own. It features nodes of: dark plum, wild berry, red velvet flower and liquid praline to name a few. The bottle is a strange shape for placing on your dressing table though like a diamond with no bottom for it to stand upright.

MeMeMe Cherub Blush - Cheek & Lip Tint - £5.50 (full size)

This is the best fitting product to the Dark Romance theme, I tried it out yesterday and it creates a nice coloured lip stain. However, it slightly irritated my lips when I put it on.

Premae Harmony Smoothie Serum - £22.50 for 50ml (20ml sample)

This claims to hydrate the skin whilst soothing redness and also keeping the skin matte and shine free. I have been contemplating getting a mattifying lotion so i'll see how this goes.

Broadway Impress Nails - £7.99+ (full size)

This is my favourite item in this month's Glossybox as I am an avid user of Impress Nails already. I've used them for about 2 years now and absolutely love them. Surprisingly, this glittery french tipped set is actually one design that I haven't used before!

What do you think of this month's box?

HOUSE OF HOLLAND - Face Ache Nails by Elegant Touch

I love wearing fake nails because they always look so much better than my own. I'm known to be the one with extravagant nail art and these definitely fall into that boat.

The designer Henry Holland has collaborated with Elegant Touch to create some gorgeous fake nails for his House of Holland collection.

My lovely Ryan picked these up for me from Boots. They are the HOUSE OF HOLLAND - Face Ache Nails by Elegant Touch which retail for £8.99 (available here at Boots) and there are a variety of cool designs to choose from.

Each pack contains 24 nails, so 2 wears and a few spare. The sizing is okay but there is a giant thumb nail which is literally 2 of my thumbs so I definitely won't be using that one! They are almond shaped nails.

They claim to last 10 days but I always carry nail glue around with me just incase. Each set comes with said nail glue and a file too.

They're a quirky design and what you'd expect from House of Holland.

Here are some other examples, some of the other designs are more subtle though!

They would make a great stocking filler!

    Which ones are your favourite?

    Merry Hill Autumn/Winter Fashion Event

Last week, I attended an event at Merry Hill Shopping Centre to showcase the coming season's trends.

We were treated to a fashion show of all the up and coming trends and a variety of beauty talks from Boot's including: Smashbox, Maxfactor, Origins and No 7. There are a definitely a few products I want to get after speaking to the ladies and trying some samples!

    Smashbox

    Issey Miyake Pleats Please Fragrance

    Origins

The Origins Gin-Zing Energy boosting Moisturiser is now on my wishlist. It smells amazing like all of the Origins range.

    Autumn/ Winter Fashion Trends

So, trends to look out for over the next few months are:
    • Leather and Fur
    • Cobalt Blue
    • Monochrome (Ebony and Ivory)
    • Metallics

(L-R) - Oasis, Internacionale, Vero Moda, Vero Moda, Warehouse and New Look

Vero Moda featured my favourite outfits of the night including this quilted white top which I actually picked up last night! It retails for £28 but Vero Moda have 25% off so it worked out at £21!

They have some lovely clothes in store and are really finding themselves in the fashion market. Poppy Delevingne is there model at the moment!

This weekend they are hosting an 'Autumn Fashion Weekend' with lots of discounts around the centre. You can pick up a voucher booklet from the concierge desk which gives you 20% off a variety of stores ranging from: Boux Avenue, Vero Moda, Oasis, Warehouse and many more.

I actually headed back to Merry Hill last night to make the most of the offers. I've been craving a shopping trip all week so I couldn't resist. I spent over £70 so headed to the concierge desk to pick up the free OPI nail varnish offer myself. There are 4 colours to choose from: a deep blue, nude pink, red and a vampy red.

I'd recommend heading over to Merry Hill this weekend! You can't complain at the huge choice of shops, free parking and discounts! Fashion trends will be on display and there are beauty pods around the centre to give everyone a treat.

Thanks to Westfield Merry Hill for a lovely evening!
